Country dominated the 90s like no other music in America. Shania Twain went
22 times platinum and sold the more albums than any other genre.
Even one of the top Whitney Houston song, "I will Always Love
You", was orginally sung by country music singer Dolly Pardon,
Tony Rich got a hit with "Nobody Knows It But Me" that was made a hit by country music singer Kevin Sharp (orignally sang and
writen by Babyface). Besides Shania's stellar album sales, Garth
Brooks
had two of
the top
ten selling
albums
of
the 90s.
There is an awful lot that I did not like about 90s music, but 90s country music
had some sort of creative explosion that is undeniable. R&B artist
copied many country music songs, coutry dominated the charts
and crossed over easily into pop.
Shania Twain - Rock This Country
Garth Brooks - Thunder Rolls
Garth Brooks is an amazing introduction to country music for people who are on
the line about the genre. The man writes and sings like nobody's
business. Its not wonder he did so well within 90s country. Thunder
Rolls still gives me chills. Country music writer are without
a doubt some of the best song writers on earth [thunder rolls
lyrics]. I've heard hard core country music fans talk shit about Garth Brooks being
a "country music sellout" or "not real" country music. Whatever
the case (as of 2007), the man is in the top twenty best selling
albums THREE times.
Shania Twain - Still the One
She's not just a pretty face. If you've ever seen her in an interview you were
almost definitely impressed. She is like the epitome of everything
that is bad ass about a real woman.
I grew up with hip hop, funk and soul music and had tunnel vision with music
for a long time favoring them more than any other genre. But
it is songs like this that have broke
my
perspective
of what
good
music
is.
Good music transends genre.
